YOu may not recall, but a while back we published a beautiful collection of carpets, inspired by the Scottish countryside. Terre Des Hommes is the second collection of rug designs by Eeuwes Studio, inspired by the Aerial theme. Stepping back from the more naturalistic approach taken in Landscapes, the 6 rugs that make up the Terre des Hommes collection employ a more reductive graphical language to create designs that are less explicit in their origins, more open to personal interpretation.
Working from aerial perspectives of a variety of agriculturally ‘formed’ terrains around the world, the abstracted designs reduce these man-made landscapes into their core formal components. While these decorative elements reflect the reality of specific, indigenous cultural farming practices, their ‘visual veracity’ is subverted through the application of a color palette that amplifies the mystery of each design. We now turn to top design bloggers such as Ashley Rose of Sugar & Cloth, who has decorated her kitchen shelving with an array of pastel dishware. Don’t be afraid to mix function and style when it comes to your decorative shelves. Put useful items on display, but arrange them artfully. If the shelving is purely decorative, choose pieces carefully. Be selective, as this gives your shelves a curated, artful look, as shown by this DIY hoop shelf from A Beautiful Mess.

Read on for some of our favorite inspiration rooms featuring cozy sunken living areas that we’d love to nestle up in. The soaring ceilings of this bright and airy Texas home are further exaggerated by its recessed seating area. The raw look of the wooden ceilings and concrete floors are softened by strategically placed pops of color and plush pillows.
