We received some photos and information about a contemporary desk called Igl Jet, created by a small manufacturing company based in Munich, Germany. Here is the press release we were sent: “Going back 40 years in the history of modern furniture, we found an icon of product design. In 1970 Ernest Igl designed a desk that has become a collector’s piece among connoisseurs and acquired a cult following at international auctions. This groundbreaking, legendary desk is now being produced again as a limited edition. In the early ‘70s the igl jet’s revolutionary formal concept and exclusively synthetic composition made it an icon of contemporary office furniture. Now, using the latest technology to ensure the highest quality of reproduction, the Igl Jet is once again available as a limited edition.
Ernest Igl understood that conventional materials such as wood, glass or steel were not compatible with his design concepts: “People allow the limited capabilities of wood and steel processing equipment to determine the style of their furniture – even- surfaced, angular, cold and aggressive”. He reallized that his “structured softness” could only be manufactured using synthetic materials. Under license of Sensufaktur Tobias Brandstetter this classic desk is now being manufactured again. Every desk in this limited edition is numbered. The desk is made of a special high-grade polyurethane mix that is 100% recyclable. It comes in a durable soft matt fnish and is available in four typical colors: pearl-white, jet-black, metallic-gray and metallic-orange or any individual color. On each side of the desk there are three steel, full-extension, soft-stop drawers”. The desk was recently featured in Man in Black 3. Just check out the trailer at the end of the post (hint: minute 1:42).
Most people have closets in their homes these days, but sometimes there’s always that need for the stuff that just doesn’t fit or belong in there. Check out this great use of an armoire to hang coats, store outerwear, and even provide a little bench area! Perfect for any entryway or mudroom. If you have a bathroom that fits one, an armoire is a beautiful way to add more storage — especially for towels. Like some of the others on this list, this armoire from Enchanted Home does away with the glass and replaces it with netting instead.
Bet you never expected this! Another example featured on Giddy Upcycled shows an armoire transformed into a big, beautiful birdcage for live birds. Of course, the glass is replaced again with more appropriate cage-like netting. Neat idea if you want to show off your feathery friends in style.
