Owning a house nearby the seashore can be a wonderful experience. Hearing the sea’s whisperings, capturing thousands of unique sunsets and waking up in an environment that simply exudes peacefulness, must be something truly amazing, that not many end up experiencing it during their lives. The Avalon House, the project designed by McCoubrey / Overholser in New Jersey feels like the breeze of a warm summer night. Inspiring joy and bringing happiness, this coquette home is more than just a summer escape for the adventurers. It’s the permanent home of a family in search of peace and tranquility.
The Avalon House feels warm and bright. Floor-to-ceiling windows offer ravishing views of the raw landscape. Outside, there’s a small terrace and a lounge area. Nothing too edgy or crisp. Just subtile and inspiring. The interior features white walls, high ceilings, modern furniture and a sense of style. The living room and the kitchen are one, enhancing the feeling of space. The bedrooms are located on the upper floor, each with its own bathroom. The main asset of this house is the landscape surrounding it. Views of the seashore are available from almost everywhere in the house.
Inside the school, a wall made of cross-laminated timber separates classrooms from the main corridor, providing a space for storage and study. With very little to work with, the architects have managed to create a building that is much more than just the sum of all of its parts
The best architects can create designs which will give clients and the public things they didn’t even realise they wanted, and this is especially important when architects are given the difficult brief of creating structures in much-loved, iconic areas.
